Lisa and Gordon-Reed's June 20 “American Inspiration” talk will provide us with a better understanding of the holiday Juneteenth: a look at where we were as a country at the time of the 1865 declaration in Galveston, and where we are today. The understanding of slavery's role in our nation's history and the recognition of its legacy continues to evolve, and professors such as Gordon-Reed are at the center of the dialogue.
