Beaver Brook Playground/Dog Park + Mighty Squirrel Taproom
Saturday June 15, 2019
2pm - 5pm
PANE is sponsoring another nature jaunt at the Beaver Brook Reservation in Belmont, 300 acre woodland area with a playground, dog park and open fields. Families, friends, children and dogs are welcome.
We plan to meet at the Beaver Brook Splash Park and Playground, readily visible from Trapelo Road. You’re welcome to spend your time there are elsewhere in the park. Then we plan to cap off our time outdoors with a trip to a local pub, the Mighty Squirrel Taproom in Waltham.
Beaver Brook is known for its walking trails, open fields, woodlands, and fishing spots. In addition you are welcome to enjoy the bike path, a cascading waterfall, wading pool, a newly renovated playground (with splash park available in August) and, for the canine contingent, an off-leash dog area. The reservation offers programs on wildlife and cultural history. Restrooms and a tot lot are also available.
It is a good idea to bring a bottle of water and wear appropriate foot gear. Please use standard protections against ticks as you would in any wooded area, i.e. long pants, long sleeves and insect repellant.
There is a printable map of Beaver Brook Reservation (including elevations) here. Or, if you prefer a digital map, you are welcome to use the location-enabled online maps from Google or OpenStreetMaps during the trip.
You can find mass transit directions here with the closest bus stop being the 73 and the closest commuter rail stop being Waverly on the Fitchberg Line. The 73 Bus starts in Harvard Square (Red Line) and ends at the Waverly Commuter Rail Stop.
