Managed by the Sudbury Valley Trustees, the beautiful Greenways Conservation Area is a well kept secret that offers some great birding—and now butterflying. The river in this area is also designated as a Wild and Scenic River by the National Park Service, which ensures its protection. A meadow in the north section of this area is being rewilded with native plants and has attracted the attention of grassland birds, bees, and butterflies. Generally, this is a very birdy spot even late in the season and a great place to find Yellow-Throated Vireos, Eastern Bluebirds, and maybe a Bobolink or two.
Please note: the trail can be muddy, rocky and rooty in spots. Dogs can be a problem. Ticks are not uncommon—tuck your pants into socks!
We will be walking about 2.25 miles over mostly flat terrain.
Beginners welcome! Loaner binoculars available on request. Beginners are also encouraged to download the free Merlin app. If you don’t have a ride, reach out and carpool!
Please RSVP below.
NOTE:
GPS can be inaccurate at this location. Look for St. Ann Catholic Church on Cochituate Road. Green Way is directly across the street.
While we can’t promise too many tiger sightings in the wild, we can usually find some good birds!
